Friday, August 7, 2015: Kevin Welch

With great pleasure we are bringing to our audience Texas-based songwriter Kevin Welch. Kevin is a masterful guitar player and a songwriter’s songwriter. Kevin has a global following and has played major festivals and events across the USA and around the world. Even if you haven’t heard his name before, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve heard his songs, recorded and sung by a long list of country and Americana artists.

Kevin Welch’s poetic lyrics evoke stories, that reveal the human character in a pure light. They are a joy to listen to. His long recording career, launched in 1990 with 2 recordings on Warner Brothers and several more on his own label, includes chart-topping collaborations with Kieran Kane and Fats Kaplin. When he’s not touring with Kane Welch Kaplin, he tours nationally, playing solo gigs or performing with his son, Dustin Welch.

Kevin moved to Nashville in the late 1970s, upon the suggestion of his friend John Hadley, a professor at the University of Oklahoma. Once in Nashville, he became a songwriter for Tree International. His songs were recorded by such artists as Moe Bandy, Waylon Jennings, Roger Miller, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, The Highwaymen, The Judds, The Kendalls, Patty Loveless, Reba McEntire, Charlie Pride, Ricky Skaggs, Pam Tillis, Randy Travis, Conway Twitty, Don Williams, and Trisha Yearwood.
